System Requirements

Computers

If you would like to talk CPU, RAM, GPU, HDD etc., feel free to give us a call, otherwise … StairBiz is very powerful but it is also extremely optimised - you will not be frustrated with any Windows PC or laptop you have purchased new in the past five years. Having said that, ‘better’ is always a good investment in the computer world, StairBiz or no StairBiz.

Operating System

Windows XP through to Windows 10

Tablets

StairBiz is compatible with the Microsoft Surface Pro tablet (i.e. with Windows 8.x).

StairBiz is not compatible with the Surface RT (with Windows RT), or with other types of tablet.

Whereas the Surface tablet can be great for on-site quoting, we don’t recommend it as your primary StairBiz computer because of the limited monitor size.

Monitors

Minimum is 1024 x 768, but we’d recommend 1280 x 1024 or above (1920 x 1080 is fantastic if you have a choice).

Many of our high-end clients use a second monitor, with StairBiz permanently on one, and all their other work on the other.

Microsoft Office

Our user manuals come in Microsoft Word format (so that you can change the terminology to match your country and business, and you can make good use of the Document Map). If you don’t have MS Word, we can provide them in PDF format.

Depending on the size of your business, it can sometimes be more efficient to manipulate (create, add or change) large amounts of certain types of data (timber prices, parts lists and prices, labour costs etc.) in Microsoft Excel, rather than in StairBiz, and the relevant windows in StairBiz have the capacity to Import/Export from/to Excel for this purpose. However, Excel is not required and you can get along very nicely without it.

StairBiz uses a Microsoft Access database. However, you do not need to purchase or install Microsoft Access.

Server

StairBiz does not require a server computer unless you plan to network StairBiz. If you plan to network StairBiz, any Windows server capable of a static IP address (for a TCP/IP connection) is fine (i.e. pretty much all of them). The server does not need to be a dedicated server computer – it can just as easily be an existing desktop computer, and it may also (or not) be running StairBiz as a client. Contact us if you have any further questions.
